Easy in your own skin?

Are you easy
In your own skin?
Does it take a lot of work
just to feel that you fit in?

Should we try this hard to be ourselves
When the force distorts our simple loves?

I see your gaze now as it turns away,
Like you don’t know what you want to say.
See your hand curl into a fist-
There is always something that you will have missed.

Join the club,
It’s not real,
There is no law to tell us how to feel.

Are you easy in your own skin?
Will you walk along this way again?
You know I wore that look before you came
But I took it down to light the light in.

A work in progress till I die,
I know I fail but at least I try
And I wander through my waking mind
See shades of you in what I find.

Are you easy in your own skin?
Do you wear it like a shelter?
Do you have to prove your worth to men,
Regardless of the weather?

I see your gaze now as it turns away
Like you don’t know what you want to say
See your hand curl into a fist
There is always something that you will have missed

Join the club,
